In conjunction with my exhibition at the Festival of Quilts, I am thrilled to be giving a lecture on the ‘unconventional and unexpected’ aspects of quilts. Please make sure you book a ticket before they get snapped up! I look forward to seeing you there.
About the lecture
From a 40-year involvement with quilts, Roderick Kiracofe will look at quilts from a historical and a contemporary art perspective. Mr Kiracofe has authored multiple texts on quilts including Unconventional & Unexpected: American Quilts Below The Radar, 1950-2000. He believes that quilts need to occupy the same space as other contemporary art in museums, galleries, and collections.
About the exhibition
Unconventional & Unexpected two: Quilts from the Kiracofe Collection, sponsored by Quiltfolk
For over 30 years, collector and author Roderick Kiracofe has played a significant role in shaping the American quilt landscape. His second book, Unconventional & Unexpected: American Quilts Below the Radar, now in its second edition, celebrates dozens of utterly unique — and gloriously unexpected — quilts from his famed collection.
Improvisationally pieced, bursting with colour, and unruly in the best of ways, 14 quilts from the Kiracofe collection go on display at Festival this year. Each enchanting quilt is sure to stir the hearts and minds of quiltmakers and textile lovers of all kinds.
Roderick will be signing copies if his book Unconventional & Unexpected every day of the show at 1.30pm in his gallery, TG16.
